Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls is a secondary grammar school and sixth form with academy status, granted in 2011, in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. In 2004, the school was awarded a ‘Science College’ status.

The school is partnered with Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School; the two schools collaborate throughout the academic year in events such as drama performances and music recitals.

Since the introduction of the Education Bill (2011), schools previously judged as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted are no longer subject to whole-school inspections unless concerns are raised. In April 2011, Ofsted contacted Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls to confirm their assessment ‘outstanding’.

## Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls 11 plus admissions process

To apply for entry to Year 7, parents must register their daughter with the Grammar Schools of Birmingham Consortium. Girls are selected based on their age-standardised score in the 11 plus exam. It should be noted that due to oversubscription, not every candidate who achieves the qualifying score can be offered a place.

Where the number of applications for admission exceeds the number of places available at the school, places are offered to children as follows:

  1. Looked After/Previously Looked After Children

  2. Children eligible for the Pupil Premium

  3. By order of those living closest to the school

## How and when to apply for 11 plus entry to Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls

To make an application to Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls, parents need to register their daughter with the Grammar Schools of Birmingham Consortium. Additionally, parents must complete a Local Authority (LA) Preference Form that allows their choice of schools to be ranked in order of preference.

The application process opens in May and should be completed by the end of June.

Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls entrance exam format

There are two exam papers, each of approximately 50 minutes, with additional time for instructions to be given. Papers are divided into smaller individually timed sections which test:

Each exam will cover a range of all topics and consist of both multiple-choice questions and standard exam questions. Both exams include verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, and maths. One exam will also include an English 'cloze test’, where students are given samples of text with words removed and asked to replace the missing item.
