Title: Skipton Girls’ High School is a selective school for girls in the market town of Skipton, North Yorkshire. It is one of the region’s highest-performing state schools.

Admissions process for Skipton Girls’ High School

The Governing Body for Skipton Girls’ High School is responsible for setting its admissions arrangements.

There are 116 places available for children in Year 7 in 2023. All applicants will need to sit the 11 plus selection tests in September 2022. If you would like your daughter to apply to Skipton Girls’ High School, we recommend that you visit the school on its open evening (Thursday 14th July 2022) with your daughter before completing the test registration.

Children who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names Skipton Girls’ High School will be admitted. In case of oversubscription, the school will then apply the following oversubscription criteria for pupils who have achieved the required standard in order:

  1. Looked after children and previously looked after children

  2. Children who at the time of application are registered as Pupil Premium and eligible for Free School Meals

  3. Girls living within the school’s priority area (catchment area – see below)

  4. Girls living outside the school's priority area (catchment area)

What is the catchment area for Skipton Girls’ High School?

Skipton Girls’ High School is committed to prioritising places for girls who live within the Craven area of North Yorkshire. A map of the catchment area is available in the appendix of the school’s admissions policy for 2023.

How to apply for Skipton Girls’ High School

You will need to register your daughter for the 11 plus test at Skipton Girls’ High School before Wednesday 24th August 2022 at midnight. The application can be completed on the school website – this will open on 1st May 2022.

You will also need to name Skipton Girls’ High School on your Local Authority Common Application Form (CAF). The closing date for this, regardless of which LA you reside in, is 31st October 2022. Parents of children who live in North Yorkshire will be able to apply here.

When is the Skipton Girls’ High School 11 plus exam taken?

Registration for the 11 plus test at Skipton Girls’ High School will open on 1st May 2022 and close at midnight on 22nd August 2022. You will receive two copies of your daughter’s personal registration card in the week commencing 12th September, then girls will sit the 11 plus test at the school on Saturday 24th September.

You will receive a written outcome of the exam by Monday 10th October. Offers of places will then be sent to parents during the first week of March in 2023.

Skipton Girls’ High School 11 plus exam format

The 11 plus exam at Skipton Girls’ High School is provided by GL Assessment.

Pupils will take three multiple-choice papers:

  • Maths

  • English (two extracts with questions, plus questions which may include spelling, punctuation and grammar)

  • Verbal reasoning

Once the three papers have been marked, each result will be expressed as a standardised score. This takes the child’s age into account and helps to ensure that younger girls are not disadvantaged.
