There are 145 places available for boys to enter the school in Year 9. Around 6 more places will be available for entry in Year 10 and a further 20 places available in Year 12.
Throughout the year The school organises open mornings or individual appointments. Details of these are available on the school website. Parents are advised to book ahead by contacting the admissions office.
Deadline – May of Year 5 Parents can download a registration form by following the link on the school website: https://www.tonbridge-school.co.uk/admissions/year-9-entry.
Autumn term of Year 6 Applicants are required to take the ISEB Common Pre-Tests, either at their current school or at an approved centre. Results will be assessed alongside a report from the applicant's current headteacher.
October – December of Year 6Candidates will also be invited to the school for an assessment day, consisting of a ten-minute interview with a senior member of staff and an interactive team-building exercise. Some sources inform us that the interview will include questions on current affairs, what they have been reading recently and a discussion of some photos provided at interview. Candidates who have missed the registration deadline in Year 6 may be allowed to join the headmaster's list for late applicants: after completing the Common Pre-Tests, applicants will sit exams in English and maths, set by Tonbridge and taken in November of Year 8.
January of Year 6 Results from the examinations, interview and headteacher's report will be considered and offers for places at the school will be sent to parents. These will take the form of either an unconditional offer for a place in Year 9, a provisional offer, or no offer. Provisional offers are subject to further assessment in the summer term of Year 7, which take place at the school and consist of 1-hour papers in English and maths, followed by a short interview.
April/May of Year 8 Candidates who have received an unconditional offer may sit the academic scholarship. These take place over three days in May. Details can be found on the school's scholarship leaflet, which can be downloaded from their website.
Summer term of Year 8Candidates from schools that prepare boys for CE are expected to sit the Common Entrance exams and they should aim for an average of over 70% in the core subjects. However, this is not a condition of entry.
Deposit requested: £2000 (upon receipt of offer)
