There are approximately 140 places for boys and girls to enter in Year 9. There is also further opportunity for a limited number of pupils to enter at Year 12.
Open mornings and taster days are organised by the school; dates and details can be found on their website. Parents are also advised to book a private visit by contacting the admissions office. Parents are asked to bring their child with them during this private visit for an interview.

Autumn term of Year 6 All applicants are required to take the ISEB Common Pre-Tests, either at the prep school or at an approved centre. Results will be assessed alongside a confidential reference from the applicant's school.
Apart from the initial interview during the private visit of the school, there are no other assessments after the Pre-Tests.
Within two weeks of interview Offers will be made based on performance in the Pre-Tests, school's reference and interview.
February of Year 8 Stowe uses the ISEB Common Academic Scholarship Exams. Candidates will go to Stowe to take papers based on the ISEB CASE syllabus, as well as complete a headmaster's essay (general paper), a French oral and an interview with the headmaster. Those who go to schools that do not prepare for the ISEB scholarships may take the ‘Stephan Scholarship', with papers in English, maths and science, along with the headmaster's essay and interview as above.
Summer term of Year 8This school requires candidates to achieve an average of at least 55% at Level 2 Common Entrance. If their current school does not offer Common Entrance, they may take papers set by Stowe itself and are required to achieve at least 50% in English, maths and science.
