St Mary's School Ascot is a Roman Catholic independent day and boarding school for girls in Ascot, Berkshire. It was named 2015 "Public School of the Year" at the annual Tatler Schools Awards and was the top ranked UK school for GCSEs in 2018.
St Mary’s recommends that you register your daughter at least two years prior to entry ie. no later than the end of Year 4. This will place your daughter on the candidate list to sit the school’s bespoke entrance examination. You can contact the school registrar, Mrs Sandra Young, either by telephone on: 01344 296614 or by email at [email protected]
It is highly recommended that you visit the school before applying for admission. You can find the details of upcoming open mornings here:Open Mornings
Please note that these must be booked in advance.
Candidates will be invited to take part in an assessment at St Mary’s held in January of Year 6.
This will include an academic test, as well as an interview with the Headmistress or Deputy Headmistress.
The test will be made up of three parts - an English, Mathematics, and General paper.
The General paper can include verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions and pelling, as well as comprehension and listening skills. St Mary’s do not release past papers, but can supply guidelines to schools or registered parents. You can request the latest guidance on the exam by emailing the school at [email protected]
We would recommend preparing for this test by ensuring that your daughter has a comprehensive understanding of the KS2 national curriculum. The campaign area of Atom Nucleus will help to ensure you have spent the optimal amount of time in each subject and close any gaps in knowledge. For the Verbal and Non Verbal reasoning component, it is crucial to become familiar with the styles of reasoning that these questions require. Atom Nucleus allows you to do unlimited practice questions, and is packed with high quality videos and helpsheets to help develop your understanding. This is a powerful tool, proven to significantly improve performance in VR and NVR. Atom Nucleus also allows you to take unlimited practice tests - these will help you to identify your daughter’s strengths and weaknesses so she can use her time as effectively as possible in revision.
To learn how to get the most from Atom Nucleus, you can book a free place on a Nucleus Webinar.
Offers will typically be received within 3 weeks of the test date.
St Mary’s Ascot offers a range of support in the form of means-tested bursaries. You can find the latest information here:Bursaries

Recipients will be selected from the entrance assessments, and the current Head teacher’s reference will be given careful consideration.
