The Henrietta Barnett School (HBS) is a leading grammar school for girls aged 11-18 and the school became an Academy in April 2012. Founded in 1911 and situated in the peaceful surroundings of the Hampstead Garden Suburb in London, the school is a charming Grade 11* Listed Building with new state-of-the-art buildings.
HBS is known as one of the best academic state schools in the UK and consistently receives ‘outstanding’ Ofsted ratings.
Admission to The Henrietta Barnett School for Year 7 is by academic selection. Prospective students are assessed based on their performance of the 11+ entrance exams. The school typically receives over 3,000 applications for 100 places in Year 7.
In the event of oversubscription, priority for admission will be given to those candidates who meet the criteria set out below, in the following order:
A ‘looked after’ child or a child who was ‘previously looked after’.
Children eligible for Pupil Premium funding (up to 20 candidates only).
Candidates who currently live within 3 miles of the school at the point when they submit their application to the Local Authority.
All remaining candidates in rank score order from the second round entrance exam.

The open day for The Henrietta Barnett School is normally held in mid-July.
In order for your daughter’s application to be considered, two forms must be completed:
The Common Application Form for your Local Authority (CAF); and
The Henrietta Barnett School Entrance Test Entry Form. This can be found on the school’s website when registration has opened, typically at the end of April:Entry Test Form
It is important that both the Local Authority and The Henrietta Barnett School applications are completed to ensure your daughter can sit the first round entrance exam.
As soon as registration opens at the end of April in Year 5, we recommend adding the registration deadline to your calendar to ensure your daughter’s application is returned on time. The registration deadline is typically towards the end of the summer term in July.
The entrance exams are sat in the Autumn term of Year 6 as follows:
GL Assessment in Round One and school-written exam in Round Two.
The Henrietta Barnett 11+ exam consists of two rounds and are taken at their school venue.
