The Harrodian School is an independent, co-educational day school set on a 25-acre riverside estate in Barnes, South West London.
We would recommend visiting the school prior to registration. There are tours run weekly between September and May, and you can find the details of upcoming events here:School Tours
The school also organises two 11+ Open Mornings each year, and you can book your place here:Open Mornings
The registration deadline is early November of Year 6, however we would recommend that you register in September where possible.
You can download the registration form here:Registration Form
Parents will receive an exam confirmation form that must be completed and returned to the school. The Harrodian School will also request a reference from your child’s current Headteacher in early December.
Candidates will be invited to sit an entrance examination in early January. This will include written papers in English and Maths, as well as an online test of Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on numbers, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Reasoning test measures Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning skills. The Verbal Reasoning section is designed to test and assess your child’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary. The Non-Verbal Reasoning section measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
We would recommend preparing for this test by ensuring that your child has a comprehensive understanding of the KS2 national curriculum. The campaign area of Atom Nucleus will help to ensure you have spent the optimal amount of time in each subject and close any gaps in knowledge. For the reasoning component, it is crucial to become familiar with the styles of reasoning that these questions require. Atom Nucleus allows you to do unlimited practice questions, and is packed with high quality videos and helpsheets to help develop your understanding. This is a powerful tool, proven to significantly improve performance in VR and NVR. Atom Nucleus also allows you to take unlimited practice tests - these will help you to identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses so they can use their time as effectively as possible in revision.
To learn how to get the most from Atom Nucleus, you can book a free place on a Nucleus Webinar here:
Candidates who have been successful in the entrance examinations will be invited back to the school for an interview in late January / early February.
Successful candidates will receive their offers in early February, and must confirm acceptance by early March.
