King's currently has approximately 850 pupils, most of whom enter the school at Year 9. There are places for 30-40 pupils to join in Year 12. There is also the Junior School, where pupils can join any time up to Year 7.
Throughout the year The school organises various events and open days. Booking for these is essential and details can be found on the school website: https://www.kings-school.co.uk/admissions/open-days/.
Deadline – end of Year 6 Parents should register their child by completing the online registration form, which can be found by following the link on the school website listed above. This can be done for pupils of any age and parents will receive regular updates to keep them informed.
King's operates a deliberate policy not to pre-test in Year 7, so as not to add pressure on young pupils.
Approximately two and a half years before entry, the registrar will request a formal reference from the candidate's current school. Since there are no Pre-Test exams, this reference is very important.
Spring term of Year 6 Upon receipt of a sufficiently positive reference, the registrar will write to parents with a conditional offer of a place.
Summer term of Year 8 Up to 20 King's scholarships and exhibitions are offered each year. Exams are held at the school and consist of the following compulsory papers: English, maths, science (including a practical assessment), a modern language paper and a general paper. In addition to this, candidates will sit three papers chosen from: a further maths paper, geography, history, RS & Philosophy, a further modern language paper, a Latin or Greek paper. In addition to this, candidates undertake a research essay, submitted in advance, and have a 20-minute interview, which includes discussion of this essay.
Summer term of Year 8This school requires a score of at least 60% in each subject at Common Entrance.
