There are 80 places available for boys and girls to enter at Year 9. A further 30 places are available for pupils to join in Year 12. There are also places available for entry into Ampleforth Junior House in Years 7 and 8.
Throughout the year The school recommends beginning the admissions process with an individual visit to Ampleforth on a typical school day. You should telephone or email the admissions office to book this visit. The school also organises an open morning, usually in the spring term.
Usually by end of of Year 6 Most parents register their child in Year 6, but it is possible to register later than this. It is recommended to get in contact with the Admissions Office to ensure smooth progression of the application. Autumn term of Year 6For entry into Year 9 from 2021, all pupils will be required to sit the online Ampleforth pre-test before receiving an offer.
Christmas term of Year 7 Ampleforth will request a report from the candidate's current school and require the candidate to attend an informal interview with the Head, Director of Admissions, and three House Masters, usually in Christmas term of Year 7.
January of Year 7 Places for the school or places on the waiting list will be sent out five terms before the child is due to join.
February of Year 8 Ampleforth uses the ISEB Common Academic Scholarship Examinations, sat at the candidate's current school at the times set for Group A schools. The syllabuses and specimen papers can be found on the ISEB website, but candidates will complete papers in English, maths, science, Latin, French, history, geography and RS. In addition to this, Ampleforth sets their own Greek paper.
Summer term of Year 8 Offers for this school are conditional on a score of at least 50% in each subject at Common Entrance.
